About Psychoanalytic therapy

Psychoanalysis in the Kleinian tradition is a specific approach to psychoanalysis that was created by Melanie Klein. This method is known for its intense focus on early childhood and the role it plays in shaping our adult psyche."

In the Kleinian tradition, great importance is attached to unconscious fantasies and emotions that emerge already in early childhood. These early experiences are crucial for the development of our personality, and understanding them can help in the treatment of mental health issues.

Therapy in the Kleinian tradition focuses on exploring these unconscious processes through the analysis of dreams, free associations, and also behaviors in therapy. This method allows a deep understanding of oneself, one's emotions, and relationships with others. The main goal of therapy is to experience and work through unconscious conflicts residing in the patient's psyche, which have their roots in relationships from early childhood.

What does therapy involve?

  • Free associations: The patient is encouraged to talk about everything that comes to mind, regardless of how trivial, embarrassing, or chaotic these thoughts may seem.
  • Interpretation: The therapist interprets the patient's statements, paying attention to their hidden meaning and connections with past experiences.
  • Analysis of transference: The patient may unconsciously transfer feelings and relational patterns from the past onto the therapist. The therapist helps them become aware of these transfers and work through them.
  • Analysis of countertransference: The therapist reveals their emotional reactions to the patient, which can help in better understanding their inner world.
  • Psychoanalytic therapy in the Kleinian tradition is a long-term process that can last from several months to several years. It is a demanding form of therapy, but it can bring significant improvement in the patient's life.

Dr Bielecka provides therapy in the Kleinian tradition, under the supervision of experienced psychotherapists in psychoanalysis.
